Gosh, I still can’t believe this !!! If anyone would’ve told me a week ago that Chelsea was going to reach the Champions League final after a clash with Barcelona I would have laughed in his face. They produced a heroic performance in London winning a game dominated by Barcelona from start to finish with 1-0, scoring from their only shot on goal but I was pretty damn sure things will be different in Spain.
And I was right, at least for the first half. Everything was going great for Barca, they were all over the Blues from the first minute and Sergio Busquets managed to score and restore parity in the tie after 35 minutes. A few minutes later, disaster for Chelsea, John Terry was shown a straight red card after a stupid knee shot into Alexis Sanchez’s back off the ball and since then the Blues played in 10 men against 11 incredible players from Barcelona, on Camp Nou.
Just when I’ve thought things couldn’t get any worse for Chelsea Andres Iniesta doubled his side’s lead and it looked like the Blues were going back to London in tears tonight. No one would’ve thought that a 10-men Chelsea could even score against Barcelona but Ramires managed to execute an amazing lob and give his side a moral lead at half time. At 2-1 Chelsea was in the final, Barca had to attack again, and again.
And guess what? That’s exactly what they did all second half.. They had a brilliant chance to seal the deal just a couple minutes after the break when they received a penalty but Messi hit the top bar and he was going to hit the left bar again minutes later. Barca just couldn’t find the goal they needed to avoid going out on the away goals rule and.
At the end of the game, Torres, yes Fernando Torres, managed to do the unthinkable.. he scored in stoppage time to seal a 2-2 draw and a stunning 3-2 aggregate win for Chelsea over Barcelona and take his side to the Champions League final in Munich. Torres scored the £50 million goal, highlights below.
- Barcelona wins the 2011 Spanish Supercup
- Real and Barcelona draw first leg of the Supercup
- Lionel Messi scores five as Barca trash Leverkusen 7-1
