The Game: Nashville Predators @ Phoenix Coyotes
The Reason: Two of the NHL’s hottest goalies will square off in Phoenix tonight when the Coyotes host the Nashville Predators in Game One of their Western Conference Semifinal series. Preds netminder Pekka Rinne enters the contest with a 1.81 GAA and a .944 save percentage, while Mike Smith has been even better for the Coyotes, with an identical 1.81 GAA and a .950 save percentage. The Coyotes went under the total in each of their last four games, while the Predators did not go over the total in any of their five first-round games against the Detroit Red Wings. Look for both teams to play stellar defense as this game goes under the total.
The Game: Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees
The Reason: The Tigers enter tonight’s game having lost their last four in a row, but their last win did come in the last game that Justin Verlander took the mound. He will be on the mound once again tonight when Detroit takes on the Yankees. After earning a no-decision and a loss in his first two starts of the season, Verlander has recorded back-to-back wins and has lowered his ERA to a solid 1.72. The Tigers enter the game having won four of their last five on the road, and six of their last eight against the Yankees, dating back to last year’s ALDS. Look for Verlander to get them another win in the Bronx tonight.
